However, when it comes to anti-bullying issues, those must be addressed specifically by the Disciplinary Committee. We cannot turn a blind eye to this problem. Bullying does not only happen in offices; it can occur peer-to-peer, from senior to junior, or even from junior to senior. It is a serious issue that requires firm and structured intervention.
Before we take the next question, allow me to respond to the issue raised about the campaign. During the campaign period, it was suggested that my team was closely aligned with the Nyama Chaka teachers. Let me clarify that. The Law Society did not endorse any single candidate. I ran my campaign independently.
My sister, Rachel Bivas, who is also a student, was one of the greatest contributors to my campaign. We conducted our campaign independently. Perhaps some photos were taken — even forcefully — to create the impression that we were aligned with certain groups. However, we were not aligned with anyone.
We were ready and willing to work with whoever would be elected President by the members of the Law Society of Kenya.
First and foremost, I want to thank my family. They have supported me greatly — especially my sisters here, my mother, and everyone who stood by me.
Secondly, I want to thank the members for believing in me. On the ballot, we were three candidates. Among us, I was the youngest. The other candidates had 20 and 19 years of experience respectively. Even after the debates, the members believed I was the right person for the job. I do not take that for granted.
You have always known me as a servant leader, and that is the same spirit in which I intend to continue serving you.
The Office of the Vice President is significant because it oversees Member Services. Member Services is the department responsible for ensuring that all members feel the impact of the services provided by the Law Society.
When the Law Society was founded, it began with a strong welfare focus for its members. My peers call me “Mama Welfare.” I promise you that you will now truly experience “Mama Welfare” — serving seniors, juniors, and all members alike.
