Health Research and Innovation as the key Pillar of a Resilient Health System

Speaking at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Annual Conference, held under the theme “Innovations and Partnerships for Sustainable Health Solutions,” the CS said research-driven policy is critical in addressing emerging diseases, improving surveillance, and strengthening service delivery.
He noted that the conference aims to showcase scientific innovations, foster partnerships, and translate research findings into practical health solutions, adding that digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly transforming disease detection, diagnostics, and data-driven decision-making.
The CS encouraged researchers to harness AI responsibly to improve early warning systems, predictive analytics, and public health responses.
Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai said KEMRI remains a cornerstone of Kenya’s health research ecosystem, providing evidence that informs policy and supports national priorities such as universal health coverage and health security.
The PS emphasized the Ministry’s support for AI-enabled research, local innovation, and uptake of scientific findings, urging researchers to align their work with national development goals.
The annual conference brings together researchers, policymakers, and partners to share knowledge and shape future health interventions.
