Statement by Midiwo Youth Leader on ODM Position and Nairobi Meeting
Story by Ayubu John photo journalist Afrimedia news.As Midiwo Youth Leader, I wish to address, first and foremost, the issue concerning ODM.
As you are all aware, there has been ongoing discussion about the ODM mandate, which now appears to have shifted from a clear mandate to what is being referred to as SDP. As a committed ODM member and a young leader representing the youth of Midiwo, I want to state firmly that we are not going to allow such a gathering to take place here in Nairobi.
The meeting in question, reportedly organized under the leadership of President Ruto, lacks transparency. As ODM members, we are not aware of its agenda, and therefore, we cannot support or allow such a gathering to proceed.
You will recall that Baba Raila Odinga has always stood as a strong pillar of multi-party democracy in this country. What we are witnessing now raises serious concerns, as it appears to interfere with the democratic principles he has long championed.
It is also concerning that certain individuals are being mobilized to organize this meeting without proper consultation within the party. As the youth leadership from Midiwo, we want to make it very clear: we will not allow this gathering to happen in Nairobi.
Furthermore, I have made efforts to engage party leadership. It has been suggested that Winnie may be considered for a leadership role, including that of Deputy Party Leader. However, recent developments show that some members attempted to mislead her by suggesting she would be included in this meeting’s agenda. That is not true. Winnie is not part of any official agenda.
As we all know, political parties operate under the rule of law and established procedures. Any serious engagement or proposal should be formally documented, submitted through the Secretary-General, and deliberated upon by the relevant party organs. What we have witnessed instead is a PR exercise, not a legitimate party process.
As I speak, I do so as Midiwo Youth Leader, standing in solidarity with the party leadership under the stewardship of Madam Gladys Wanga.
Therefore, I call upon all ODM members, especially the youth, and all Nairobi residents: let us stand firm and ensure that this gathering does not take place.
Na kama watajaribu, sisi kama vijana wa Midiwo, sisi kama wanachama wa ODM, na sisi kama wananchi, hatutakubali. Huu mkutano hautafanyika Nairobi.
