Story by Ayubu John Afrimedia Group news.DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has raised a series of strong concerns touching on Kenya’s health, energy, security, and governance systems, while also outlining internal party reforms ahead of future elections.

Speaking during a political engagement, Gachagua claimed that the Social Health Insurance (SHI) system is facing serious operational and financial challenges. He alleged that hospitals across the country are owed significant arrears, leading to strained service delivery and cashflow problems within the health sector. He further argued that the system’s claims processing infrastructure is managed externally, which he described as inefficient and costly, warning that the current structure could destabilize healthcare institutions if not urgently reviewed.

On the energy sector, he questioned government-to-government fuel import arrangements, alleging a lack of transparency in procurement and pricing. He linked these arrangements to rising fuel costs, calling for reforms in the petroleum supply chain to enhance accountability, reduce intermediaries, and lower the cost of fuel for ordinary Kenyans.

Gachagua also raised concerns about national security, stating that reforms are necessary within the policing system to effectively respond to emerging criminal threats and restore public confidence in security agencies.

Politically, he emphasized internal democracy within the DCP party, announcing that all aspirants seeking party tickets will undergo free, fair, and credible nominations across all 47 counties. He highlighted the party’s growing presence nationally and confirmed interest from various aspirants, including in Kiambu County, as the party prepares for competitive participation in upcoming elections.

Overall, his remarks combined sharp criticism of government policy with a call for institutional reforms and stronger political organization within his party.
